I doubt if they will do that. If every monster skin in GW can have every class associated with it, there's no reason every race in GW2 can't have practicioners of every class. Cmon, a roller beetle that can be an elementalist, a ranger, and a dervish? It's not a far stretch to see an Asura using hammer skills even if he's not running around with a hammer, although I'm sure we'll see a lot of asuran tanks running around with hammer builds for the first few weeks due to how hilarious it will look ^^

Racial abilities are bad news altogether at most their should a few non-game breaking racial exclusives like the norn->bear thing. these should all be skills(on the race) and similar but nothing that makes one race have a better class then the others(kind of like the corsair net) e.g slight speed boost skill(about 15 secs only +5% speed to outspeed foes but not go too fast),skill that causes bleeding with an attack but the attack takes a few seconds to pull off, slow projectile that slows down foe when hit(charr hunting net?),ect.
Skills would be better as they are optional rather then having an all out boost to whatever ability but not so strong that parties discriminate between players who choose a certain race for a proffesion. e.g the charr hunting net can be used to snare a foe(for warrior/assassains to take care of) or slow down a pursuer of a caster or keep a foe in place for a nuker but can be beaten by jumping or moving out the way because it is slow.
The slight speed boost is similar but it's a more reliable skill for catching or escaping foes however it's outclassed by speed boosts from other skills but it could have a second advantage of not being a stance.

I'd be surprised if they linked classes to races.

Yeah I honestly think it makes sense as well as someone else stated. On the techincal side... I feel it would allow Anet to make more detailed armor if it specific for a race.
I can see charr wearing more tribal like outfits and such were asura might wear more cloth and fancy type stuff. I don't know if I'm getting my point across but I am trying to say that it will depend on if they make the same warrior set (for example) look different on different races.. that would be a lot of work.. so it might be better to just not allow them to play that race.. Obviously it's too early to tell and frankly I'll play no matter which way they choose to approch it.

Dunno if that would make a difference, since in GW2 armor won't be profession based.
I too can understand them linking classes to races - as it's been said, it goes with the lore. It just sucks that it takes away a large aspect of roleplay.

i'm sure it'll be like all other game where your caster can be any race...but it makes the most sense for them to be the goofy little caster race (Asura, Gnome, whatever). I'm not sure that I've even heard any mention of classes at all in GW2. The primary/secondary class system does provide a nice way to respec fairly easily. I'm kinda a fan of the classless systems though.

Oh.. I haven't heard that before.. but that's interesting.. and makes sense.. though it would concern me about the varity per race.. or will all races have the same build and be doing the same things. /ponder I suppose if they stick to the having 8 or 10 skills or whatever it is.. there could be different builds but still...
Either way I'm being an Asura and that's all there is to that

I heard that each race (sylvari, asura, etc.) will have it's own "primary" attribute, but I haven't heard about the classes and such. But I think it would be cool if you could choose your race AND class, like in WOW. Even though Guild Wars is so much better! hehe

It would be pretty stupid to do that, since you can have dual classes (hopefully).
Example, if you make a Asura, who is limited to only be a spell caster, you could still make a E/A and go daggers. There is no effective way to prevent a Asura sword wielder or a Norn caster from existing due to dual classes, so they might as well not have such a restriction.

Actually, now that I think about it...Lorewise it doesn't make much sense. Sure, you can say "well the Asurian society favors spellcasters", but what if you're Asurian and you want to become a warrior? What's a logical reason for not being able to be trained to do so?
